Ann & Tyler’s Timeless Wedding on Super 16mm Film | Documentary Wedding Videography

When Ann and Tyler first reached out to me on Instagram, I was thrilled. Funny enough, they discovered me through my personal instagram account, @pflipsen_, before I officially transitioned to my new branding, Ring Theory Films, in 2022. From our initial consultation, I knew their wedding would be something truly special. We connected instantly over their love story, shared appreciation for music, the arts, and their deep respect for analog photography and film.

Ann and Tyler’s vision was clear: they wanted their wedding captured entirely on Super 16mm film. It was the perfect match since I specialize in Super 8mm wedding videography and Super 16mm wedding filmmaking, both in Los Angeles and as a seasoned travel wedding videographer.

Attention to Detail: A Wedding Planner’s Dream

In the months leading up to their wedding, Ann and Tyler’s organization impressed me. From timelines to outfits, table settings, and every detail in between, they had everything perfectly planned. Their attention to detail made the day flow seamlessly, which allowed me to focus on capturing every beautiful moment on film.

And can we talk about Ann’s dress? When I saw her in person, I was blown away. Guests compared her look to the iconic bride from The Parent Trap, and honestly, she wore it even better! The pastel palette of the bridesmaids’ dresses complemented the documentary-style shots we captured on Kodak Super 16mm analog film.

A Minnesota Homecoming

The wedding took place at Equestria West at Bavaria Downs, one of my favorite venues in Minnesota. Although I’m based in Los Angeles, I love traveling back to my home state for weddings—it’s the perfect excuse to visit family and friends.

Capturing the Magic on Super 16mm

From the getting-ready moments to the golden-hour couple portraits, this wedding was a dream to shoot. While the day had a relaxed, documentary-style vibe, we made sure to schedule two portrait video sessions. These moments of quiet intimacy between Ann and Tyler turned out to be some of my favorite clips. The Super 16mm film added a timeless, cinematic quality, especially as the golden light bathed the venue during sunset.

The energy of the day carried into the night with an incredible live band, The Blue Water Kings Band, who kept the dance floor alive. Every moment—from the first look to the final song—felt like it belonged in a movie.

Why I Love Shooting Weddings on Film

There’s something magical about capturing weddings on Super 8mm and Super 16mm film. The grain, the texture, and the nostalgic feel of analog motion picture film can’t be replicated digitally. Ann and Tyler’s wedding reminded me why I love what I do. Being able to document such a special day with this unique medium is an honor I don’t take lightly.

If you’re looking for a documentary wedding videographer or someone who specializes in Super 8mm wedding video or 16mm wedding videography, let’s connect! Whether you’re in Los Angeles or planning a destination wedding, I’d love to help you create something timeless.

Let’s capture your story on film.
