When Giavanna first reached out about her and William’s destination wedding on the North Shore of Lake Superior, I could feel how special their story was right away. The moment she mentioned their venue, Bluefin Bay Resort in Lutsen-Tofte, Minnesota, I was ecstatic. I actually went to college near that area, so this wedding was the perfect excuse to revisit one of my favorite places and create something truly meaningful on Super 8mm film.
As a wedding filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California, I love traveling for love stories like this, whether it’s a destination wedding, an intimate elopement, or a celebration tucked away in a stunning landscape. Giavanna & William’s wedding was the perfect blend of emotion, nostalgia, and natural beauty.
A Perfect Day on the North Shore
The shores of Lake Superior made the most breathtaking backdrop for their outdoor ceremony. The water shimmered against the rocky coastline, and the gentle sound of the waves added such peace to the atmosphere. The weather couldn’t have been better, soft clouds, calm air, and golden evening light that seemed made for film.
As a Super 8mm wedding videographer, I’m always chasing that kind of organic beauty that doesn’t need much direction, it just unfolds naturally. The love Giavanna & William share gave everyone (myself included) chills all day long. Every look, every laugh, every tear was so genuine, and it translated beautifully through the texture and tone of analog motion-picture film.
Capturing Love on Super 8mm & Digital
For this film, I used my Mixed Media Package, which combines Super 8mm film with digital footage for a perfect balance of vintage warmth and cinematic clarity. The Super 8mm segments added that timeless, nostalgic feeling, while the digital moments offered crisp, modern coverage, the best of both worlds.
I always say: shooting weddings on film is more than an aesthetic choice, it’s a feeling. Every Super 8mm frame holds emotion differently. It breathes. It flickers. It reminds you of what love actually feels like in the moment.
Destination & Elopement Wedding Filmmaking
Though this celebration took place in Minnesota, my work as a wedding filmmaker and videographer in Los Angeles takes me all over the map. From coastal California to mountain elopements and luxury destination weddings abroad, I’m drawn to couples who value artistry, story, and experience over trends.
Whether you’re planning a destination wedding, a mountain elopement, or a romantic coastal ceremony, I travel worldwide to capture authentic love stories on Super 8mm and Super 16mm film. Every film I create is handcrafted, shot on real motion-picture film stock, and developed with the same care given to classic cinema.
A Few Words About the Couple
Giavanna & William radiated warmth and connection from the very beginning. Their day was intimate yet full of energy, laughter from family and friends, tears during the vows, and that unspoken ease between two people who just fit. It’s couples like them that remind me why I fell in love with filmmaking in the first place.
For Couples Dreaming of Their Own Film
If you’re planning your Los Angeles wedding, a destination elopement, or simply want a film that feels timeless and personal, I’d love to help you tell your story on Super 8mm or Super 16mm film.
Each wedding I take on is an opportunity to slow down, shoot intentionally, and craft something that will live beautifully for generations. Whether you’re getting married on a cliffside in Malibu, the streets of Paris, or along the shores of Lake Superior, I’ll bring the film cameras, the creative vision, and the heart.
