I never thought I’d be writing these words: I moved to Los Angeles! After spending my entire life—26 years—in Minnesota, this is a huge leap for me. Minnesota has always been my home, where I was surrounded by my amazing family, friends, and a thriving business network that supported my passion for wedding videography. But last year, life threw some curveballs: a long-term relationship ended, and I underwent ACL/meniscus surgery. At 26, single, and without pets or other major ties, I felt an undeniable pull to start fresh. By August 2024, the decision was clear: it was time to head west.
Why Los Angeles?
Los Angeles felt like the perfect choice. I’ve visited numerous times and always loved the energy, the weather, and the creative opportunities the city offers. The sunny climate and the vibrant, diverse community were major draws for me. Plus, I already have a handful of friends and acquaintances in LA, which made the transition a bit less daunting.
As a wedding videographer, moving to LA opens up incredible possibilities. The city is a hub for creativity and culture, and I’m thrilled to bring my passion for documentary-style wedding filmmaking to couples in Los Angeles, California, and beyond. I specialize in capturing love stories on Super 8mm and 16mm film, offering a timeless and artistic approach to wedding videography.
Reflecting on Midwest Weddings
Leaving Minnesota wasn’t easy. The Midwest holds a special place in my heart, especially when it comes to wedding filmmaking. The couples I’ve worked with there have been some of the most genuine and loving people I’ve ever met. There’s something incredibly wholesome about Midwest weddings—the traditions, the communities, and the celebrations of love I’ve captured on Super 8 and 16mm film.
But as much as I’ll miss those Midwest love stories, I’m excited to explore new traditions and cultures as a travel wedding videographer. Whether it’s a mountaintop ceremony, a beachside elopement, or an urban rooftop wedding, I can’t wait to document unique expressions of love in new settings.
Embracing LA Life
Now that I’m settled in Hollywood, I’m diving into everything Los Angeles has to offer. Aside from wedding videography, I’m looking forward to surfing in El Segundo, skateboarding at Venice Beach Skatepark, and making frequent trips to Bear Mountain—a dream spot for snowboarding and possibly even summer weddings! (Do they host weddings there? Let me know!)
Celebrating Diversity
One of the aspects of LA life I’m most excited about is the diversity. As a gay filmmaker, I’ve sometimes felt the Midwest’s more traditional culture wasn’t the best fit for me. In Los Angeles, I’m looking forward to connecting with more LGBTQ+ couples and capturing their love stories through my lens. Diversity enriches everything, and I’m eager to celebrate it through my wedding videography.
Let’s Connect
